Course Objectives

This course will include an overview of the five primary curriculum theories:

  • essentialism
  • perennialism
  • progressivism
  • social reconstructionism
  • postmodernism

Particular attention will be given to the content, methodology, and evaluation methods represented by these five theories.

Students will compare and contrast these theories, analyzing their strengths and limitations.

Teacher-centered and student-centered ideologies will be examined for their implications for classroom decision making.
