Bibliographic Instruction

Contact your librarian for in-class instruction

The library bibliographic instruction sessions are designed to assist faculty to establish instructional programs and integrate information literacy skill training into course content. Subject librarians will teach students how to access and use information effectively by fostering information independence and critical thinking.

Usually covers:

  • the library's system of organizing materials and the structure of the literature of the subject field,
  • research methodologies appropriate to the academic discipline
  • specific resources and finding tools: library catalog, scholarly published journals, databases etc.

  • evaluate the credibility of information and information sources

We can provide:

  • Multiple sessions embedded into department curriculum
  • One time training with tailed information for special research need
  • Orientation programs for graduate and undergraduate students
  • Advanced database searching skill training with hands-on experiences
  • Introduction to library services
  • Implement library research elements into class assignments
  • Provide customized electronic course guide as needed and specified

Lib197 - Introduction to Library & Information Research

A Class to recomend to your new undergraduate student

This one-credit class primarily provide practical skills needed to conduct library and information research including using electronic and print resources, defining researchable topics, and evaluating and citing sources.

This course are offered to all CMU enrolled students twice a year in both fall and spring semester.The classes meet the first eight weeks of each semester with total of 16 teaching hours.
