What is a Human Library?
The Human Library® is a global innovative and hands-on learning platform that allows communities to enhance their understanding of diversity in order to help create more inclusive and cohesive communities across cultural, religious, social and ethnic differences. The event offers a safe framework and fosters positive one on one conversations for ‘books’ to share their stories and have open dialogue with their ‘readers’. As a book, you would be assigned a 'reader' to speak to for about 20 minutes at a time. Books give their readers a sense of what their story is about and then there is time for questions and dialogue on challenging topics, in hopes of breaking down stereotypes and to celebrate diversity within our community. Human books are people who volunteer to share stories about their backgrounds and/or life experiences. During this event, you can “check out” a human book to have a conversation about the book's topic. Participants can “borrow” human books for up to 20 minutes at a time.
