Finding Grants and Writing Proposals: Data Management Plans and Resources

About Data Management Plan

What is a data management plan?

A data management plan (DMP) is a written document that describes the data you expect to acquire or generate during the course of a research project. Many funding agencies require that grant proposals address how data will be managed and shared with other researchers. For example, the National Science Foundation now requires that all proposals for funding include a data management plan“ stimulate new advances as quickly as possible and to allow prompt evaluation of the results.”

Where to find the guidelines and examples of data management plans?

Guidelines for data management plans are laid out in individual agencies and organizations. This page attempts to provide direct links to the agencies's guidelines and other resources.
