Course Objectives

This course discusses the philosophy and principles underlying the organization and operation of educational administration in the United States.  Course Objectives include:

  1. Discuss theory as it relates to the practice of educational administration.
  2. Discuss the basic dimensions of organizational structure.
  3. Define and assess several theories of leadership.
  4. Identify and assess selected patterns of verbal and nonverbal communication.
  5. Explicate the major characteristics of organizational change.
  6. Discuss the creation and maintenance of organizational cultures.
  7. Describe and contrast several theories of motivation.
  8. Identify and assess selected models of decision making.
  9. Explicate federal, state and local roles in education.
  10. Explicate the public school finance system.
  11. Explicate the public school legal system.
  12. Discuss and evaluate curricular and instructional leadership.
  13. Describe the basic components of human resource management.
  14. Discuss career development.
  15. Synthesize a concept of educational administration.
