The primary goal of this course is to provide students with an awareness of the breadth of issues facing institutions of higher education, and the literatures relevant to scholars and practitioners of higher and adult learning. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the prime issues facing institutions of higher education.
- Discuss theory as it relates to contemporary issues.
- Identify institutional differences and approaches to addressing current challenges.
- Draw connections between organizational theories, institutional cultures, and contemporary issues.
- Analyze the impact of approach to leadership on organizational change.
- Conceptualize the complex relationships underpinning higher education operations.
- Describe the positions of prominent theorist and scholars of higher education on current issues.
- Identify the roles of various stakeholders in current issues.
- Demonstrate ability to identify and frame problems and questions within the field of postsecondary education in a thoughtful, analytical, and critical manner.
- Analyze the role of decision making on contemporary issues.
