This, the 3rd edition, differs from its earlier versions in that it includes cases from state and lower level federal courts. Chapter 1 and 2 review the history of women's legal issues in the United States. From there, the book focuses on specific legal issues such as employment, family law, education, reproductive rights and crime. Written by Eduardo Duran, Healing the Soul Wounded offers alternative techniques for counselors or psychologists working with Native Peoples. Drawing upon his professional experiences, Duran illustrates how current practices fail to meet the needs of many Native Peoples and offers practical strategies to non-American Indian practitioners. Advocating an understanding of how native traditions and beliefs impact the counseling session, Duran recommends a culture-sensitive approach to counseling. Surmising that often the root of a problem lies back many generations, Duran concludes that the only way to solve some problems is to work back to their root. (Review: Ruth Helwig)
