Saving Websites: An Introduction

In many ways, adding a citation of a website to Zotero is very similar to working with any other resource. The boxes below will show you how to save website in Zotero as well as some unique aspects of saving these types of resources.

Creating a Record for a Website in Zotero:

Find the Website You Want to Upload.

Click on the Zotero Icon at top of page to add to your Zotero Library or Collection just as you would do with another resource. An icon will appear on your screen once uploaded. In this case that icon is circled in red.

Notable Aspects of Record Creation for Zotero Websites:

When a record for a website is created in Zotero if the settings are applied correctly, a snapshot of the website at the time of its creation will be created and included as well.

While Zotero automatically saves snapshots of websites when creating a citation record for them, it also allows for snapshots to be created and added to any citation you create in the version of Zotero available through Firefox (this includes for videos).

In order to carry out this task:

  • Browse to the page you want to capture.

  • Select a citation in your library.

  • Click the paper clip (add attachment) menu button above the center column.

  • Choose “Attach a Snapshot of Current Page” from the menu.
