NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy (DMSP)
The current NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy (DMSP) went into effect January 25, 2023. Under this policy, applications for all funding that will generate scientific data must submit a data management and sharing plan. Key points:

Investigators are expected to maximize data sharing, but sharing of all data is not required or mandated

Investigators are expected to plan and budget for the management and sharing of data

Investigators must submit a data management and sharing (DMS) plan when applying for funding

Plans are recommended to be no longer than 2 pages in length

Plans will be reviewed by NIH program staff

Plans must be approved by the funding institute prior to award

Investigators must comply with the approved DMS plan.
