Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture: Web Resources

Gallica offers access to the full-text of many kinds of documents including maps, manuscripts, and images. Records for books and journals are also included in the database. There are English, Portuguese, and Spanish language versions of Gallica as well, but keep in mind that the texts of the search results will be mainly in French.

Ciencia.Science.gov provides the same breadth and depth in science search as does Science.gov, covering over 200 million pages of authoritative U.S. government science information including research and development results from 17 organizations within 13 federal science agencies. Free access is provided to over 55 scientific databases and more than 2,100 selected scientific web sites. Integrating Microsoft’s Translator, Spanish-language queries to Ciencia.Science.gov initiate searches of U.S. databases and web sites with results appearing in Spanish. This represents an innovative use of existing commercial technology to broaden public access to federal science information.

Busuu, an online language learning community offering materials for Spanish and several other languages. You can access a lot of Busuu's content for free and submit speech and writing samples to native speakers for feedback. Busuu is Europe's largest online language learning community, with over 2 million members.

Before You Know It is a flash-card based audio-visual language learning system. In addition to Spanish, this site also offers language learning programs for a host of other commonly- taught, and less commonly-taught languages, from Ukrainian to Tajiki!
