The Central Michigan University Library has been a designated federal depository library of Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) since 1958. Its collection of GOP publications has bee reduced from 50% to 10%. The current collection consists of print, microform, and online items. These items can be searched and found in the library's search tool, Smart Search. The tangible government documents collection is accessible by SuDocs number during the library's operating hours. 

Since 1990s, electronic government information has been produced rapidly, users can access a large quantity of digital current and historical government information online. In February 2024, the Government Publishing Office (GPO) announced their intention to transition to a Digital Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The primary medium for information will now be digital, not print. Check the latest news about GPO and FDLP News.
