I want to let you know Central Michigan University has decided it will no longer host the Distance Library Services Conference. This was not an easy decision for us to make, but staffing changes within the CMU Libraries and growing budgetary challenges at both the library and institutional levels make it a necessary one. As we consider our priorities and plan for the future, we feel we can no longer commit the necessary staff and resources to the conference.
The conference was first held in St. Louis in 1982 and last held in San Antonio in 2018. The CMU Libraries is proud to have supported our profession by making this learning and sharing opportunity available to so many people over the years. We encourage other institutions, organizations, or associations to consider continuing the mission of the Distance Library Services Conference to provide “a forum to discuss, demonstrate, and champion the techniques, trends, and theories of providing library services at a distance and in the online environment.” Whether it be a multi-day event, online conference, or pre-conference at a national event, we hope those providing distance/online library services will continue to have an opportunity to come together professionally.
A special thank you to those who helped make the conference possible by serving on the Conference Advisory Boards. Your collective experience and knowledge was critical to putting together programs that informed, educated, and entertained. We simply could not have done it without you.
We greatly appreciate your having supported the Distance Library Services Conference over the years, and we look forward to connecting with you again at other conferences in the future.
